Project Description

Tour on the Island of Murano: the most famous glass factory in the world

Venetian artisans have been working glass and crystal since the 10th century, even though towards the end of the 13th century they moved their workshops to the island of Murano in order to avoid the danger of fires that could be caused by the high temperatures of the furnaces.

The art of glass blowing was jealously guarded and the techniques had to remain secret, so much that if a craftsman decided to leave the city of Venice, he could risk being killed for treason.

This tour has been designed to take you to visit a traditional glass factory on the island of Murano, in the heart of the Venice Lagoon.
An expert guide will meet you at your hotel in Venice to depart from the nearest pier. You will reach the island of Murano on an accessible taxi boat for the wheelchair. After a short walk to immerse yourself in the evocative landscape that is Murano, you will arrive at the glass factory where you will be welcomed by a Master Glassmaker.
Observing the artisans at work with the glass is a unique and fascinating experience. You will not be witnessing a classic demonstration for tourists but a daily work of a Master, which very often consists in the creation of a tailor-made piece for a private client who has commissioned it or a limited-edition piece destined for the most exclusive markets in the world.
You will be told about the complex and fascinating process of glass production and the Master Glassmaker will create an object with the centuries-old technique of blowing.
The visit continues in the gallery, where you will be able to appreciate the products made in the glass factory, including chandeliers, sculptures and a wide range of jewelery in various sizes.

Once the visit is over, a relaxing walk through the streets of the island will lead you to your restaurant.
Within the menu you will find dishes of typical homemade Venetian cuisine based on fish. “Tecia de Mar”, a stew of mussels, clams from the lagoon, fish and shellfish in a slightly spicy pachino tomato sauce, is a typical Venetian dish worth trying.

In the afternoon the taxi boat awaits you to take you to your hotel in Venice.
