Project Description
Aosta, the “Rome of the Alps”
The city of Aosta, located in the valley of the same name, is a treasure trove offering visitors unspoiled landscapes, villages, churches and castles among the most beautiful in Italy.
An accessible private van will offer roundtrip transportation from your hotel located in Turin, Milan or from the main stations/airports to Aosta, also known as the “Rome of the Italian Alps”. The road ahead will be marked by imposing ancient castles, in a concentration of Roman and medieval history.
Our bilingual guide, expert in art history, will lead you through an accessible path designed specifically to help you discover all the secrets of the historic city center. You cannot help but notice how many ancient stone buildings are still visible and well preserved.
You will have the opportunity to visit the monumental Arch of Augustus, built in honor of the homonymous Emperor in order to celebrate the birth of a colony that symbolized the great power of Rome on this side of the Alps.
You will continue to the majestic Porta Praetoria, the only one preserved to this day, consisting of imposing blocks of stone fixed with crushed slate extracted from the bed of the Dora Baltea river.
Evidence from the Roman era continues with the majestic Roman Theater, which many scholars believe was used for indoor shows and which boasts a 22-meter high facade.
You will have lunch at a family-run, totally accessible, typical Valdostano restaurant, which reinterprets traditional dishes with fresh and seasonal products freshly-prepared.
